In Time of Pandemic, Christ’s Love Poured Out

Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? The lovingkindness of God endures all day long… I trust in the lovingkindness of God forever and ever. I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it, And I will wait on Your name, for it is good, in the presence of Your godly ones.

Psalm 52:1, 8b-9 (NASB)

I will not soon forget mid-March of this year. Social-distancing measures kicked into high gear resulting in the closure of in-person classrooms for the children of Arkansas. The local hospital shared its need of childcare for medical personnel. These were folks on the front-line every day, working to keep our community safe during the current pandemic. Many of these individuals would be unable to work because their children were no longer in school or daycare.

As we prayed about how we might meet that need, we contacted the leaders who serve in our weekday children’s programs. Many leaders were willing to adjust their own plans in order to provide childcare for the families of these medical personnel. Several leaders whose health (or that of family members) would not allow them to be in a high-risk setting, took on the task of scrubbing every early childhood room on campus and preparing curriculum supplies for the program. Within a week, Fellowship had opened our children’s center for Mercy Kids Care! Because of the faithful giving of Fellowship’s people, we will be providing care for these children through the month of July.

That alone would have been a great way to love and serve our community. However, there were even more ways that the people of Fellowship wanted to serve! Individuals and groups began to provide lunches and snacks for our leaders who teach these children. One community group even decided to treat the leaders to Sonic drinks once a week. These thoughtful gifts are a reminder that we are part of a body. In caring for one another so lovingly and creatively, we model Christ’s love.

That would have been enough, but Fellowship folks decided that they wanted to do even more. We have received thousands of dollars’ worth of local restaurant gift cards to hand out to the healthcare workers. It is a great joy to send home, once a week, gift cards with a note that reads, “Dinner is on Fellowship.” This lavish and extravagant giving has brought me to tears many times. It almost feels overwhelming to see our people lead in this way.

Every day I pray that this ministry in our community would make Jesus’ name great in NWA and beyond. I see this happening every day – may it continue and grow!

This… is amazing love. What a breath of fresh air into my heart and soul today, thank you Fellowship. Even though we’re 11 hours away, our love for all of you is still so, so deep. May the Lord continue to bless and keep you all as you are making yourselves faithfully and humbly available to be used by Him for His glory – and for your good and joy. Thank you, Robyn, and all who volunteered to support the front line medical workers and their families. God is moving through you and other believers to bring the love of Christ to Northwest Arkansas and the world one soul and a time.
